Civic Change
My name is Heather Peak Morison, and I have been working with Creative Civic Change for the past 4 years. I’m an artist and my roles have been as a critical friend and as a socially engaged artist. I’ve been working with many of the communities on their social sculptures as they have grown and formed. I've used art thinking and process to support, nurture, challenge and create together. Creative Civic Change has not only been an extraordinary funding program it has also created new worlds and connections, social sculptures and moments of transformation, simply because it has art and creativity at its heart. I have personally made nothing, and it has changed my practice at a cellular level, making me rethink everything. The following images are my attempt to show what a fantastical and magical universe has been born.
I began these drawings by talking with Grace Bremner and then looking back over the hundreds of vital and tender conversations I had with CCC members, then I started with a pair of hand drawn synesthetic studies expressing these personal connections, conversations, approaches and space we all held together. I focused on these studies for a long time before a series of six allegorical illustrations auto manifested from my subconscious. They depict a CCC galaxy transformed over 4 years...
